Latest viewpoints

Agent harnesses will persist as a user-experience layer.

Alex expects more harnesses to emerge because they let developers build distinct user experiences and own customer relationships even as underlying models become more capable.

Harnesses should enable orchestration instead of rigid workflows

Karanam says modern agent harnesses should expose useful primitives such as tools and private information while allowing the agent to orchestrate them rather than forcing predefined execution flows.

Agents should access the same capabilities as users

Karanam recommends aligning agent and user interfaces so that actions available through the product UI are also available to the agent through tool calls.

Tool responses should expose informative execution details

Karanam argues that tool responses should provide meaningful details about what was read, written, or changed rather than returning vague success messages that offer little learning signal.

Agents combine a harness, model, and context

Chase describes an agent as three main components: a harness that orchestrates a model and its context, and argues that owning an organization's intelligence involves control over all three.

A harness brings context to the model when needed

Chase says the harness's primary role is orchestrating fixed and dynamic context so the model receives the appropriate information at the appropriate point in its execution loop.

Most agents share a simple model-and-tools loop

Chase characterizes the core architecture of most agents as an LLM repeatedly generating responses, calling tools when needed, and receiving tool observations back into the loop.
