OpenCode ended June with around 13 million monthly active users, roughly a 20x increase from the start of the year, and was processing about seven trillion tokens per day. Extrapolating June's paid inference data suggested annualized revenue of $31-33 million, while extrapolating recent weekly data suggested $38-40 million.

Anthropic's block boosted OpenCode's visibility

Anthropic attempted to block users from using Claude Code subscriptions through OpenCode by rejecting requests where the system prompt contained the word 'OpenCode'. This action inadvertently raised OpenCode's profile and equated it with Claude Code in the minds of many users.

Users moved from Claude Code to open source models

When OpenCode launched, most usage involved people bringing their Claude Code subscriptions, but by August or September a first wave of open source models appeared. As those models became good enough for real work, users increasingly came to OpenCode to try a range of models beyond the frontier offerings.

For a four-week period in February, OpenCode saw KIMI models used more than Anthropic's Sonnet and Opus combined, the first time an open source model family had overtaken frontier models in their global usage data. This helped trigger the decision to launch a paid subscription product.
